He emigrated with his family to Brazil in 1870. There he soon gave up carpentry, ran a pub and brewery, and later traded in colonial goods. In 1877 he owned a peninsula near Porto Alegre, where he farmed.
Old Heinrich he was always called in Brazil.

Rudolph died on a boat trip from Campos Rio Grande to Porto Alegre (Brazil). He was buried on a small island near Paranaguá, in the state of Paraná.

João was a composer of sacred music and since about 1930 conductor of the largest church choirs in Porto Alegre, mainly in the Igreja São Pedro in the Floresta district, where the family has lived ever since, but also in the Cathedral and the Igreja Nossa Senhora de Montes Claros of the Polish community.

On 12.05.2013 the siblings Jane with son Márcio, João with wife, and June visited the birthplace of their great-grandfather in Trittau. Unfortunately João is missing from the photo. SCHARNBERG FILHO João rk Director

Approx. 1903 / 1904 Johann Klaus RUDOLPH Scharnberg bought the house opposite from family Harten, it was built around 1859. He had the garden laid out and replaced the thatched roof through a pantiled roof. This became the farmhouse of Rudolf Scharnberg or later Grunwald. In 1921 Johann Klaus Rudolf Scharnberg went to the old part. The old Niedersachsen house next to the dairy ("Scharnberg at the dam") was torn down when the property was sold in the 50-ies to the dairy. He traded in vegetables and later cultivated them himself, after he had bought the land of his father. During the revolutions in Brazil, in January 1894, Wilhelm was completely plundered by the troops. He moved to the city, did not want to plant any more. He sold the whole land and moved with his family to Cachoeira. There he built himself a shop that went well. In April 1897, he moved on to Ijui, a colony a little bit north of Cruz Alta. Around 1900 his father came together with his sister Emma and their children to Ijui and they lived with him.
Wilhelm visited Germany several times, in 1885, 1906 and 1910. 1913 he travelled with his 2nd wife via Montevideo to Pinneberg and is supposed to stay there until after 1918 and ran a greengrocer's in the Moltkestraße. However, in the List of business registrations for Pinneberg, which has been maintained since 1893, the name Scharnberg was not found between 1913 and 1919. In the beginning he is said to have farmed his parents' farm at the Bells pool until his older brother Franz Hinrich returned from Napoleon's campaign in Russia after 7 years of absence. As compensation he received the farm bought in 1818 next to the dairy - "Scharnberg at the dam".

Johann was the first Scharnberg to emigrate to Brazil. He had taken part in the Schleswig-Holstein uprising against the government in Copenhagen in 1848-50. Many of these warriors were hired as legionnaires in 1850/51, some of whom went to the to North America, partly to Brazil. At that time the Brazilian emperor advertised through his former war minister Barros massively around the returned veterans for its against Argentina. There a General Rosas had expansion desires.
Johann has this contract to fight as a legionnaire for Brazil against Argentina, signed in Hamburg. He drove as a pioneer (Soldado de Pontoneiro) on the "Free Trade" with 60 other mercenaries on 2 July 1851 as "Brummer" from Hamburg to Rio de Janeiro. There is no definite explanation as to why these mercenaries hired in 1851 were called "Brummer." One version is that with the large 40 rice copper coins and they were supposed to have said, "Mann, wat för'n Brummer." This term is said to have been transferred to the soldiers. But is that true?
When Johann later came back to his homeland as a well-off merchant, he told his relatives about how easy it was to make money in Brazil. That was the reason for further emigration to Brazil.

He was generally known as the "German farmer" since he also frequently called himself "German farmer on German plaice". During the inspection of the documents, which I had received from his daughter Elise, I saw a postcard, postmarked on December 22, 59 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and addressed "to the German farmer on German plaice in Germany, Alemania". It proves impressively that the anecdote concerning this postcard is indeed true and not invented. To prove it, enlarge the small postcard on the right !
1939 he was the shooting champion and remained so until the founding of the shooting club in 1952, when the club system rested during the Second World War. He had buried the club's flag and king's chain in the garden, so that they did not fall into the hands of the English and the shooting club was able to retake the original insignia when the new club was founded. In 2012 it was time again: After 2006 João Henrique BECK and 2009 Gustavo Adolpho Schlottfeldt had visited us in Trittau to learn more about the origin of their ancestors, asked Renato Scharnberg this time, if we could show him where his great-grandfather HEINRICH August SCHARNBERG was christened.
His son Fabio had received a scholarship to study civil engineering in Bielefeld. Father Renato accompanied him to Germany and so it was only natural to take the opportunity to see where his ancestors lived. The picture on the far right shows Renato and Fabio standing under the baptismal angel in the Trittau church, under which his great-grandfather has been baptized. Left of the two Elke and Rainer Langner and right Sigrid and Bruno Scharnberg. On the picture next to it an episode from the visit of the Museum of local history in Hoisdorf, in which the old tools are exhibited among other things also the wheel maker tools.
